If you haven’t seen the trailer for Disney’s upcoming film “Tangled”, you’re not missing much (but here it is anyway). It’s a “retelling” of the Rapunzel tale that appears to be more of a hijacking. This is made painfully clear by the title and the trailer, neither of which actually dare speak the name “Rapunzel”.
Robin’s review (below) of that trailer will tell you all you need to know about the movie. I consider him an authority because (a) he is very funny, (b) he understands that men and women are equal, and (c) he sports long golden locks. Also, he actually knows stuff about computer animation (that’s a perk, but it doesn’t relate to the review). Have at it:
Let’s break the stereotypes with a new stereotype! Women are men, and men are buffoons! But I disagree with [the author of “Has Anyone Asked Rapunzel What She Thinks?”] about Disney. Disney is 60% dumbness. Studies suggest that even if they stuck with their “tradition”, this movie would have a 60% chance of being dumb.I’ll probably watch it at some point anyway because I have always (since I was a blastula) regarded CG as an end in itself.I don’t know why Disney still chooses to do all of these fairy tales in the first place if they want to be PC. Also, I don’t know why they insist on turning every single fairy tale character into a sassy, over-the-top American personality… with big band and rock music in the background. It’s like trying to brush your teeth with a fork.
Sure, post away! But now I’ll need to be careful or else I’ll accidentally be saying stuff on the record. Things I say all the time like ‘I’M SO EXCITED ABOUT THE NEW TWILIGHT MOVIE THAT I GLUED MY FACE TO MY ALLCAPS KEY FOREVER!’
Flush you, “civilization”!
(I sound hostile, but a fraction of me thinks these toys would make a good gag gift for just the right quirky friend….)
